On May 21, 2024, the Institute of Plant Protection invited Researcher LIU Yang from the Institute of Plant Protection of Chinese Academy of Agricultural Sciences for academic exchange. Researcher LIU Yang has been engaged in research on the molecular and neural mechanisms of olfactory recognition of important agricultural pests such as cotton bollworms in China. He has led 4 general projects funded by the National Natural Science Foundation of China and participated in multiple national key scientific research projects, such as the Innovation Research Group Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Key Project of the National Natural Science Foundation of China. He has made significant progress in the research of chemical communication mechanisms between the three trophic levels of plants, pests, and natural enemies.

Researcher LIU Yang gave an academic report titled "Molecular and Neural Mechanisms of Olfactory Recognition in Cotton Bollworm", which analyzed the chemical sensing mechanisms of insect oviposition avoidance behavior at the molecular and neural levels. The team identified for the first time three specific long-chain fatty acid methyl esters on the surface of cotton bollworm eggs, clarifying that these three odor molecules are important criteria for female insect evaluation of the "delivery room", and further identified odor receptors on female insect antennae for recognizing odor molecules. The report is rich in content and has unique insights, helping everyone understand the cutting-edge dynamics of related research and further providing innovative ideas for scientific research.
