About HAAFS----Overview

HAAFS, Hebei Academy of Agriculture and Forestry Sciences, founded in 1958, is the provincial comprehensive agricultural research institution in Hebei Province. Currently, HAAFS has 12 research institutes and 2 scientific companies, as well as 2 National Crop Improvement Centers and 5 sub centers. It owns 5 key laboratories, 10 scientific observation stations, 1 horticultural crop resource garden, 1 microbial resource bank and 2 resistance identification stations, which are under the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs. In addition, provincial research platforms including 2 academician workstations, 5 key laboratories, 7 technology innovation centers and 1 agricultural biological resource preservation center are in charged by HAAFS. HAAFS edits and publishes 5 academic journals, including Acta Agriculturae Boreali-Sinica and Hebei Agricultural Sciences. HAAFS has a total of 894 employees on regular payroll, among which 560 employees have senior professional titles and 74.2% of total are masters or phDs.

Since the “14th Five Year Plan(2021-2025)”, HAAFS has received 43 scientific and technological achievement awards at provincial and ministerial levels, including 9 achievements for first prize, and approved 205 new crop varieties, obtained 117 new plant variety rights and 645 national patent authorizations, revised 160 local industry standards and regulations, and published 366 SCI/EI source papers. HAAFS is leading in China in the breeding and cultivation of high-quality water-saving wheat, herbicide resistant millet, brewed sorghum, "high protein and oil" soybean, high oleic acid peanut, specialty fruits and vegetables, as well as in the research of drought resistance and water-saving, plant protection, comprehensive utilization of saline alkali land, and non-point source pollution control technologies.

HAAFS has established long-term friendly cooperative relationships with institutions, universities, and international organizations in over 30 countries. 73 demonstration bases have been established for over 400 varieties and technologies’ promotion. HAAFS has always been committed to providing technological services and trainings to 346 agricultural business entities and over 50000 farmers, and supporting 2 counties, 46 provincial agricultural innovation stations and 9 research institutes in the modernization of agricultural science and technology.
