New breakthroughs in the annual grain production of the saline-alkali land demonstration base

In order to improve the comprehensive productivity of saline-alkali land in Hebei Province, the cultivation and economic team of the Institute of Millet Crops of HAAFS established a demonstration base for grain productivity improvement in the moderate to mild saline-alkali land in Huanghua City, and demonstrated and promoted the annual production model of drought and alkali tolerant wheat and sorghum, with the use of a new biological enzyme preparation in conjunction.

The special biological fertilizer with excellent improvement effect of saline-alkali soil was adopted at the base, which was jointly developed by the team and the fertilizer enterprise. By extracting the core active ingredients of earthworms, the fertilizer scientifically integrates the complex probiotic enzyme system and nutrients to form a new type of biological enzyme preparation that can partially replace chemical fertilizer and significantly improve the quality and productivity of saline-alkali soil. The biological enzyme preparation also has the characteristics of "biostimulant hormone", which can effectively enhance the salt resistance of crops. The high yield, stress resistant, growth period matching wheat, sorghum varieties, such as Cangmai 602, Zhongjie 19, Jiniang No.4 were selected for planting at the base.

The annual high yield technology of drought and alkali tolerant wheat and summer sorghum is a comprehensive innovation technology for saline-alkali farmland, aiming at improving the productivity and crop yield of saline-alkali land, which is of great significance for improving the annual productivity of saline-alkali land. Since 2023, the innovation team and the Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of Huanghua City have successfully implemented the application and demonstration of annual high yield technology of drought and alkali tolerant wheat and sorghum in the medium to mild salt-alkali fields of Sunzhengzhuang Village (salt content 2.4‰~3.4‰) in Luqiao Town, and achieved remarkable results.

From 2023 to 2024, a drought-tolerant wheat variety Cangmai 6002 and a salt-tolerant sorghum variety Jiniang No. 4 were introduced into the 200-mu drought and alkali tolerant wheat and summer sorghum base in Sunzhengzhuang Village, Luqiao Town. Precision sowing technology and the operation mode of whole-process mechanized tillage, planting, management and harvesting were adopted.In the planting process, 25 kg of compound fertilizer and 10 kg of carbamide were applied to each mu of drought and alkali tolerant wheat, 30 kg of compound fertilizer was applied to each mu of sorghum, and 20 kg of new biological enzyme preparation was applied to each season crop, and the leaf fertilizer of compound enzyme suspension was sprayed at elongation stage, boot stage and early filling stage respectively.

The yield of drought and alkali tolerant wheat in June 2024 showed that the yield per mu reached 351.6 kg, which increased 134.7 kg compared with the control area, the yield increase rate was 38.31%, the cost was saved and the income increase was 204.5 yuan. The results of sorghum yield measurement in October of the same year showed that the yield per mu reached 518.1 kg, which increased by 127.1 kg compared with the control field, the yield increase rate was 32.49%, the cost was saved and the income increase was 183.6 yuan. Comprehensive calculation showed that through the application of the new technology, the annual increase of grain production per mu of mild-moderate saline-alkali field was more than 261.8 kg, the cost was saved and the income increase was more than 388.1 yuan. The technology of annual high yield of drought and alkali tolerant wheat and summer sorghum on saline-alkali land has achieved the goal of annual high yield, fertilizer saving and income increase successfully, and explored a new way for comprehensive production of saline-alkali land.
