The Institute of Biotechnology and Food Science was founded in 1984. There are 62 staffs including 42 senior scientists, 46 doctors and masters, 1 outstanding expert of Hebei Province and 1 expert enjoying special allowance from the State Council. The research focuses on basic and applied research and technology on the fields of molecular breeding, plant stress physiology, fruit and vegetable storage and processing, grain processing, and agricultural product quality and safety. During the “13th Five Year Plan” period, the Institute obtained 5 achievements awards and 10 new variety protection rights. 3 new varieties bred by the Institute have been approved, 24 patents and 3 local standards have been developed. Based on innovative achievements and practical technologies, the Institute has provided technical services and established a number of demonstration bases, providing technical support for agricultural efficiency improvement and rural development.
