The Institute of Dryland Farming, which located in Hengshui City, was founded in 1955. There are 86 staffs, including 21 professors and 24 associate professors. The research focuses on the water and fertilizer efficient use, dryland farming & water saving technology, drought tolerant crop breeding, crop pest and disease bio-control technology. The research on pest bio-control technique on fruits & vegetables is in the leading position in China. Over 10 scientific research platforms have been established, including the National Wheat Improvement Center Hengshui Branch, National Observatory and Experimental Station, and Hebei Crop Drought Resistance Research Key Laboratory. More than 30 achievements awards of provincial or ministry level were obtained in last 20 years. 70 inventions were patented and 45 new cultivars bred by the Institute were approved by the nation.
