The Institute of Coastal Agriculture was founded in 1956, undertaking research and technical extension in the fields of rice breeding, halophyte and salt-tolerant plants, saline land utilization, and development of reclamation, etc. The main direction is comprehensive utilization of saline and alkaline land. There are 55 employees, including 14 researchers and 15 associate researchers, 2 experts enjoying special allowances of the province. Since from the foundation, the Institute has undertaken over 500 science and technology projects at all levels, 90 varieties bred by the Institute have been registered. Moreover, the Institute has obtained 46 awards for the achievements. Based on the advantages of the coastal area, it makes full use of ecological environment construction and provides scientific and technological support for saline and alkaline land utilization in Hebei Province.
