On October 30th, 2025, the on-site meeting for observing and measuring the intelligent and mechanized production of cotton-wheat intercropping in Hebei Province was held in Quzhou County, Handan City. An expert group was invited to conduct on-site observation of the intelligent and mechanized production demonstration field of cotton-wheat intercropping and to measure the cotton yield. More than 70 people participated in the event. Vice president ZHANG Qiang attended the event and delivered a speech.

At the meeting, scientist WANG Yongqiang from the Institute of Cotton introduced the intelligent and mechanized production technology of cotton-wheat intercropping and gave an on-spot demonstration of the mechanized harvesting of cotton and the mechanized sowing of wheat under the intercropping mode. Under the intelligent and mechanized cotton-wheat intercropping model, the yield of seed cotton was 396.16 kilograms/mu (as tested on-site by experts). Combined with the wheat yield of 559.3 kilograms/mu in June this year, the comprehensive benefits of this model have increased by 700 to 800 yuan/mu compared with the traditional single-cropping model, achieving a "double harvest of cotton and grain". The experts attending the meeting gave full recognition to this model and pointed out that the cotton-wheat intercropping model combined with intelligent and mechanized technology is an important way to enhance land output and resource utilization efficiency and ensure national food security.

In recent years, the Institute of Cotton, HAAFS, has been focusing on simplicity, efficiency, greenness and intelligence. It has made concentrated efforts in the selection of suitable crop varieties, the optimization of cultivation and management models, and the research and development of supporting agricultural machinery, and has integrated and innovated the intelligent and mechanized production technology of cotton-wheat intercropping. This technology not only enhances land utilization but also significantly reduces labor intensity and production costs, greatly improving the benefits of cotton planting. In 2025, this technology has been demonstrated and promoted as a key agricultural technology in Hebei Province in cities such as Handan, Xingtai, Cangzhou, and Tangshan. This is of great significance for stabilizing the cotton planting area in Hebei Province and ensuring national food security.
