On November 6th, 2025, the Institute of Cotton, HAAFS, in collaboration with the People's Government of Fengnan District, Tangshan City, successfully held the "on-site observation event on the whole-process mechanization of cotton production and the construction of the whole industrial chain". More than 130 people, including staffs from government departments, experts from the cotton industry technology system, representatives of new business entities and major cotton growers attended. Vice President WANG Qi attended the event and delivered a speech.

At the event site, the participants first observed the high-yield advantages of new varieties suitable for mechanization such as ‘Ji Mian 30’ and ‘Ji Mian 262’, as well as the harvesting effects of different brands of cotton pickers. They experienced on the spot the driving role of new varieties, new technologies and new agricultural machinery in the transformation and upgrading of cotton production. Subsequently, they visited the production site of oyster mushroom to learn how by-products such as cottonseed hulls and cotton stem were "turned from waste into treasure". Finally, they observed the entire process of mechanical cotton picking, cleaning and processing, and witnessed the secret behind how standardized management makes high-quality raw cotton a "hot commodity" in the market. The participants unanimously agreed that this event systematically demonstrated the upgrading path of the cotton industry chain, with rich content, providing valuable experience and practical model for the sustainable development of the cotton industry in Hebei Province.

In recent years, the Institute of Cotton has relied on a series of projects to organized relevant scientific research forces to actively connect with enterprises and farmers, and built a collaborative system of "scientific research + base + enterprise + farmer". In the production chain, efforts have been made to promote the integrated application of new varieties, new technologies and new agricultural machinery, achieving whole-process mechanization in cotton production. The average cost reduction and income increase in the demonstration area exceeded 300 yuan/mu. In the processing chain, experts from the institute guided seed cotton processing enterprises to achieve high-quality and good-price cotton through standardized processing and whole-process quality control. The selling price per ton was 200 to 300 yuan higher than the market average. In the extended chain, the technology of using by-products such as cottonseed hulls and cotton stem to produce oyster mushroom was developed. Moreover, the discarded mushroom sticks were transformed into organic fertilizers for soil improvement, thus forming a green cycle of "cotton - mushroom - fertilizer". This model has driven the cotton production in the 10,000-mu demonstration area of Fengnan to increase by 11.5% to 18.2%, created over 3,000 jobs in planting, processing, breeding and other links, and raised the comprehensive utilization rate of cotton to 90%. It has truly achieved keeping the added value of the industry in the production areas and ensuring that the achievements of development benefit the farmers.
