From November 11th to 15th, 2025, at the invitation of the National Polytechnic Institute of Mexico (IPN) and CIMMYT, LI Yan, vice president of the HAAFS, led a delegation of 3 members to Mexico for a five-day visit.
At IPN, Dr. Isaac Juan Luna Romero, the dean of the School of Biology, and Biol Gonzalo Galindo Becerril, the vice dean, met with the delegation and held a special academic seminar. At the seminar, Vice President LI Yan introduced the basic situation of HAAFS and the current status of the discipline of agricultural microbiology. Dr. Isaac Juan Luna Romero introduced the development history, discipline settings, student scale, etc. of the School of Biology of IPN. Both sides conducted a review and summary of the jointly undertaken international cooperation projects and signed a science and technology cooperation agreement. After the seminar, the delegation visited the microbiology laboratory of the School of Biology and the National Virus Laboratory of Mexico.
At CIMMYT, the delegation visited the quality research laboratory of wheat, maize and sorghum, the genetic improvement laboratory, the agricultural museum, the globally renowned germplasm resource bank, the experimental stations and sorghum field experiments, gaining a deep understanding of the evolutionary history of wheat and maize as well as the progress of genetic improvement technologies. Dr. Thanda Dhliwayo, a maize expert, elaborated on the current status and future plans of CIMMYT in global corn, wheat and sorghum research and development. Both sides engaged in a lively discussion and reached a cooperation intention on the exchange of heat-tolerant germplasm resources, mutual visits of personnel and joint research and development.
This visit further deepened the friendly relations between HAAFS, IPN and CIMMYT, broadened the horizons of researchers, and played a positive role in promoting the high-quality development of HAAFS's agricultural microbiology discipline, crop resources and breeding discipline, and even the agriculture in Hebei.
