In order to improve the cultivation technology level of the pear industry in north of Hebei and optimize the local variety structure, the pear team of Institute of Changli Fruit Research has demonstrated and promoted new pear varieties and technologies at the green, high-quality and efficient production demonstration base in the mountainous area of Pingquan City. Select high quality and cold resistant new varieties such as "Wanyu" that is extremely resistant to storage and has a moderate sour and sweet taste, "Miyu" with a golden surface and delicate and juicy texture, "Canyu" with no seeds and a red halo, and "Changli No.1" with red skin and fresh and crisp texture for demonstration and promotion.

Since its establishment, Pingquan Base has relied on HAAFS’s new varieties and technologies. A series of excellent new varieties (strains) were demonstrated, mainly focusing on self cultivated varieties such as "Wanyu" and "Miyu". Cooperating with the independently developed promotion technology--- dense planting, light simplified cultivation, garden construction and shaping technology, etc., it saves more than 10% using of water and fertilizer compared to conventional fertilization and flood irrigation in gardens. Subsequently, through integrated demonstration of non bagging cultivation techniques (stone sulfur mixture+multi ecological area joint dynamic monitoring and early warning of fruit boring pests+directional silk+fruit surface smoothness improvement technology), the incidence of pests and diseases were greatly reduced, and the fruit surface smoothness was significantly improved, resulting in higher price of pear. At present, the tree is 7 years old, with a compact structure, neat appearance, and good ventilation and light transmission. The demonstration base’s construction has achieved significant results, with high recognition from enterprises, it meets the needs of industrial development and leads and drives the high-quality development of the pear industry.

'Wanyu', planting in the core demonstration area of the base, has fine and crisp flesh, moderate sour and sweet taste, rich flavor, 14.2% of soluble solids, and superior quality. The measured yield is 3600kg/mu. Under non bagging cultivation, the leaves and fruit surface are smooth, and the insect fruit rate is less than 0.5%. The selling price is 6-10 yuan/kg, with a cost saving and efficiency increase of over 1500 yuan per mu, and an economic benefit increase of over 15% compared to conventional orchards.
