Gaocheng District is a major soybean production area in Hebei Province. In order to support the development of local soybean industry, the soybean team of the Institute of Cereal and Oil Crops carried out the construction of a high-yield soybean demonstration base. Several high oil content soybean varieties such as “Jidou 17”, “Jidou 29”, “Jidou 32”, high protein soybean “Jidou 21”, double high soybean “Jidou 23”, and high-yield soybean “Jidou 24” were introduced to cultivate in base. “Jidou 17” is a high oil and high-yield soybean variety with a oil content of 23.42%, which is 1-2% higher than the national high oil soybean research target and imported high oil soybeans. It has passed 3 national and provincial reviews, with a very wide adaptability, and has been listed as a leading variety by the Ministry of Agriculture for many years. “Jidou 21” is a high protein soybean variety that has been approved by both Hebei Province and the national government. It has a protein content of 45.38% and is listed as the leading variety for strip inter-cropping by the Provincial Department of Agriculture.

The low and consistent yield level of soybean is the main bottleneck restricting the development. Full, uniform, and strong seedlings are the basis for achieving high yield of soybean. Currently, soybean production in Hebei Province generally suffers from poor sowing quality, severe shortage of seedlings and broken ridges. In response to this situation, the demonstration base focuses on promoting the technology of summer soybean wheat stubble no tillage and straw covering sowing, combined with seed coating agents to ensure full seedling coverage, while assisting comprehensive cultivation techniques such as chemical control and multiple prevention (promotion) to improve yield.

Establishing a large-scale, high-quality, and efficient production demonstration base in the core demonstration zone, promoting and popularizing standardized soybean production technology, multiple varieties have continuously created high-yield records of over 300 kilograms in actual yield testing for many years. In 2023, “Jidou 21”, with achieving a yield of 344.38 kg/mu for 2500 acres, ranking sixth in the summer soybean group of the national high-yield competition; In 2024, “Jidou 32” yielded 310.35 kg/mu, an increase of 12.7% compared to the control. The demonstration effect of the base is significant, and the radiation driving effect is strong. The coverage rate of “Jidou” series varieties and technologies in Gaocheng District is over 30%.
